The countdown has begun for our first vacation of 2015. We have to start the countdown, because this relentless snow in the northeast is making us crazy! We need a distraction and there is nothing better to avoid our current harsh reality than starting to prepare for our first trip...a beach getaway! We have quite a bit to do over the next few weeks, starting with getting our RV dewinterized. We are aware many do this themselves, however, we feel better taking the RV to the service center at our local dealer to do a better job than we could likely do. In addition we need an oil change. It is also around this time, the last dragging few weeks before our adventure begins, that we put together our first aid kit and start filling up our table in our spare bedroom with the dry foods, drinks, lotion etc that we can to begin to "load up" for the season. There is something so special about this time before our trips. It's oddly tradition now. Like putting up the decorations weeks before Christmas (we put ours up six weeks before lol). We have often said to ourselves that the anticipation is almost as much fun as the event. It is so much fun to spend time researching the area we are heading to, finding great restaurants to seek out, booking experiences, and semi planning all the in-betweens. Such joy...and some heartache. So here is the challenge this year and moving forward- making new traditions...be flexible. As we've mentioned in past blogs, our family is in transition. The past few years our eldest son, Ian, has not been able to come on some of our trips due to his college schedule, and now this year we have our second oldest, Mitchell, in college as well. Neither of them are able to come on our first trip. Also, this year, Ian will be graduating. He even has an amazing employment opportunity already lined up out of town for this summer and upon completion of his degree at the end of the year. We are so incredibly proud of him, and sad at the same time. We know this is life, we know that we will go through this with each of our kids. However, it is our goal as parents to keep our family connected, on whatever level that may be, moving forward. It will be unique to us and our family and we are determined to make it work... somehow..some way. So this year's trips will be different, as will next year and the year after that, and we are ok. We will be flexible. We are so grateful that we made that amazing decision to purchase our first RV in 2008 and not wait to make memories. As we move forward into this year's travel season, we have so many more memories to make and we look forward to what life will bring the Pignatora family. Florida, here we come!
