Here’s how we do it!
One of the mottos in our life is to “Make the best choices you can for you each and every day”. To our family that means staying away from processed foods, eating organically, and remaining fit and active as much as possible. When Rving, we make no exceptions to this rule. We try to save calories, and some money, by cooking as much as we can right in the RV. It is important to us to have our kitchen “healthy ready”! Our RV is fully set up much like our kitchen at home. For us to cook the meals we like to eat, we need the tools to prepare healthy recipes. We can’t go on a trip without our crock pot, food processor (or blender), outdoor flat griddle, good sharp knives, large stir fry pan, an 8 quart pot and a strainer, outdoor grill with grillable veggie baskets, and of course storage bags/containers for left overs. Before we leave on an adventure we load up on groceries to get us through some of our trip. It’s important for us to make a meal plan to keep us on track with our grocery list. We typically put together meals that include proteins and Omega-3 fatty acids, fruits, veggies, nuts, and dairy. Look for future blogs and vlogs that will include some of our favorite recipes that we hope to share with you!
We do like to dine out as much as anyone, so when we do go out we prefer to find a ‘farm to table’ type eatery as we find we can make healthier meal choices rather than at a chain type restaurant. We try to limit our salt and fat intake as much as possible with each meal. Going to restaurants that are a little “off the beat and path” is exciting as it enables us to find new places to eat and sample local, healthy recipes. You can almost get a taste of the local culture when you avoid the tourist traps and try some yummy local cuisine! By just asking the locals, you will find some great places to go!
We are ready for any type of adventure on our trips, and seek out activities that will keep us active! Sure it’s nice to end the day with relaxing by a fire, but that’s after we’ve spent the day on a hike, golfing, zip-lining, or playing in a pool. It is so fun to google and try out local adventures, such as a white water rafting, or just stay close to RV and enjoy what the resort has to offer. Parks we have stayed at in the past have included horseback riding, yoga classes, miniature golf, canoeing and kayaking just to name a few. We also love to just set out games by the RV to play, such as corn hole or bocce. It doesn’t take long before the kids set down their smart phones and challenge each other to a game. Not only are we getting up and moving…but we are making amazing memories at the same time.
Life is good folks. Get up, make healthy choices, get moving, and more importantly….Glamp on friends!
