We decided the next RV is going to be our last RV…so it had to be perfect! Rving over the past eight years has taught us what we want and don’t want in an RV. We initially sat down and wrote out our “Wish List” of what the next RV has to have:
3-4 Slides, or full wall on one side
Awning with LED lights
Outside cooler in storage bay
Enormous amounts of storage
Easily accessible fuel tank
Door up front by passenger seat
Rear bumper rock guards
Dual pain windows
8000 watt generator
Solid surface countertops
3 burn cooktop
Compartmentalized kitchen and seating area (ie kitchen up front, sitting area behind)
TV in sitting area (not across the room on other side of kitchen)
No bunks this time, looking for two couches (L shaped and loveseat- can use both for beds for adult children)
Large U shaped dinette (also can be used for a good size bed)
Lots of storage for food in kitchen and clothing in back
Light and Bright modern colors for décor…we don’t need it to look like Vegas if you know what we mean!
One bathroom with porcelain toilet and sink
Larger bathroom than we currently have with better storage
Seat in shower
Walk around bed space in bedroom
Initially, after compiling this list and doing an enormous amount of research in to what models were out there that fit the bill, we were drawn to the Fleetwood Expedition 40X. It seemed to have everything we were looking for…until we saw the price tag. As I mentioned, we are planners, and in our planning we are budget conscious. It is our goal to be in the RV more and more each year going forward. Looking at what we owed on our current model and jumping into the much larger price tags on the Class A Diesel models was eye opening. It simply didn’t make financial sense for us to go in that direction. Where there’s a door that closes, there is always a window that opens. We realized the more we analyzed the list, the more obvious the answer was as to which type of RV we needed to investigate further…A Fiver! Yes, a Fifth Wheel! It’s a Diesel (ok, so the truck that pulls it is…semantics) and offers everything on the list we concocted. Here’s the clincher…FOR SO MUCH LESS$$$!!! We went back to the drawing board and spent some time on the internet, and at Colton RV, and fell in love with Grand Design Solitude 377 MB and a 2015 Ford F350. It checked every box off of our list. Colton RV was able to make the numbers happen that would work for us and we pick up the RV and truck at the end of the month. To say that we are thrilled is an understatement! There are so many more blogs and podcasts to cover moving forward in our adventure…like how to drive this thing??!!
So, there’s the proof. If you work hard, and believe in your goals…anything is possible so dream big!
